Determined Little Nut

It’s that time of year when the leaves start falling.

So do the pecans.

And it’s a race between me and the squirrels to see who gets them first.

Not a fair race though. Since they can climb the tree and get them before they fall.

After a good rain or we have high wind, I head outside with my pecan basket.

I’m getting quite a collection of them to store up for winter baking and snacking.

See this pecan in the center of the picture?

It’s barely hanging on.

Been that way for three weeks.

It’s a determined little nut.

I wonder what it will take to get it to fall?

  1. Judging by the antics I’ve seen from the squirrels in my yard that nut will not be yours my friend. It will be picked and hoarded away in a place mr. squirrel will never remember.

  2. You definitely need good luck beating the squirrels. I’ve sat here and watched them steal walnuts from my neighbors trees all summer.
You still have leaves! We have hardly any left on the trees.
    When’s pie night? 🙂

  3. Becky: Since I’m an expert on nuts, I’m sure if you go out and check it has already fallen to join its friends in the basket. “Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t” and sometimes you are a nut.
